Historical fiction from Myrtle Beach and the Appalachian Mountains
I just finished reading The Sound of Rain by Sarah Loudin Thomas. It's the first book I've read from Thomas, and I was impressed. It's set in 1954 in three different geographical areas - Myrtle Beach, West Virginia, and the mountains of KY.
It's a sweet and clean romance filled with life lessons in faith, community, service, purpose, and relationships. It's well-written and easy to sink into. The settings were well-described and unique. The problems the characters faced were real and easy to relate to. I especially appreciated scenes with one of the mountain grandmas, Granny Jane, as she taught the main character to cook. I almost felt like I was in the kitchen with the ladies!
When I saw the book's cover, I honestly almost dismissed it. I'm glad I didn't, and I would encourage you also to not judge the book by its cover.
I would recommend this book to male and female readers tho enjoy romantic historical fiction. It's appropriate for readers age 13+.
I received the book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
